چکیده

Dynamic root growth simulation is an important tool when analysing the mechanisms within the rhizosphere. The concentration of nutrients in the soil as well as water content is strongly dependent on the root structure. On the other hand root growth is effected by the nutrient concentration and water supply as well as other soil parameters. As a result realistic root growth models are often coupled with models describing the plant-soil interactions. In this paper we present an L-System algorithm which makes it possible to easily create 3-dimensional geometries of growing plant root systems. Furthermore we discuss possibilities of coupling these root growth system models with arbitrary models describing plant-soil interaction. The model is implemented in Matlab, which makes it easy to couple it to existing Matlab or Comsol models.

Simulation and Visualization of Plant Growth Using Lindenmayer Systems

Lindenmayer systems (L-systems) were introduced by Aristid Lindenmayer to generate the geometrical structures, i.e. plant, leaf, or root structures. During the last decade in L-systems prototype, the plant growth has been animated by composing images from all iterations. The problem is the development of plant model at each time step is nonsmooth and discontinuous. In this paper, we solve this ...

Evaluating the effects of Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) on morpho-physiological traits of valerian (Valeriana officinalis L.) in aeroponic system.

Aeroponic culture is an alternative method for optimizing growth of different plants in controlled conditions. Aeroponic systems are an efficient tool for the root studies and improving medicinal root production. In order to study the feasibility of valerian (Valeriana officinalis L.) production in aeroponic systems and assessing the effects of different NAA concentrations (0, 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5...

Assessment of water productivity and supply:demand ratio index in sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) in Khorasan Razavi province, Iran using growth simulation models

The rapid population growth and the need for more agricultural production necessitate more attention to water shortage and enhancing water productivity. To assess water productivity and supply:demand ratio index in sugar beet, this experiment was carried out using SUCROS growth simulation model. Long-term climatic data and collecting questionnaires from farmers were used to assessing water prod...

Effect of Arbuscular Mycorrhiza on Growth and Physiological Behavior of PHL-C Rootstock

PHL-C is one of the dwarf sweet cherry rootstocks which is a hybrid between P. avium L. × P. cerasus L. Direct rooting of sweet cherry rootstocks is difficult which can be solved by using in vitro propagation. Transfer of plantlets from in vitro to ex vitro limit the use of micro propagation, because of weak root systems and low survival rates. This study was conducted in order to select the be...

Assessment of Root Growth and Physiological Responses of Four Bread Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Cultivars to Salinity Stress

Enlarged root systems that extend into the salt affected soil improve water and nutrient capture by plants and can increase plant productivity. In order to examine root system characteristics of four bread wheat cultivars contrasting in salt tolerance (Arg, Ofoq, Tajan and Morvarid) a greenhouse experiment was conducted with applying two salinity levels (0 and 150 mM NaCl) on plants grown in PV...
